A Scottish photographer was able to capture an incredible video of a "small tornado" in Rannoch Moor.

Lochaber videographer Alastair Bryden-Henderson was shooting footage of the remote mountain area, which is described by VisitScotland as "one of the last remaining wildernesses in Europe", when he saw the amazing scene.

The Scot could see the weather phenomenon from where he was parked "just a mile or two along from Glencoe Ski Resort", and quickly started recording.

As can be seen in the breathtaking drone video, the skies over the boggy moorland are covered in dark clouds. Zooming in, the dramatic clip shows a thin column of air descending from the clouds.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Alastair said he "had never seen anything like this before".

He commented: "I could see the darkness as I was driving to the layby where I was planning to stop anyway to get some photos for another project.

"As I got closer I saw this huge dark grey cloud right in front of me with this small twister coming from it, which was a complete contrast to where I was standing a few miles away.

"I was already going to be flying the drone so I got some quick content before continuing with my project."

According to the Met Office, tornados are "one of the most violent and dramatic weather types on the planet". They consist of rapidly circling columns of air that extend between the base of a storm cloud and the ground.

Tornados can appear as a result of powerful thunderstorms, with some reaching speeds of up to 300 miles per hour.

The Met Office states that approximately 30 tornadoes per year are reported across the UK. While most are small like the one Alastair recorded, they can result in significant structural damage if they occur in built-up areas.
